Rec Teams

The WDMGS Rec League is open to all girls Pre-K through 10th grade. Leagues are determined by current grade in school during the 23-24 year and runs April through mid-June.

Registration for the 2024 Rec season closed on March 10.

Each girl will receive a team t-shirt to complete their uniform, but are responsible for providing their own:

  • softball pants (we recommend black pants, if you don't already have a pair)
  • softball glove
  • closed toe shoes/cleats (no metal spikes, except Senior Division)
  • bat (optional)
  • batter’s helmet with proper face guard and chin strap
  • softball fielding mask

Bitty Ball (Pre-K - K):

This league is for girls in Pre-K and Kindergarten. This age group focuses on learning the basic fundamentals of softball while having their coach pitch to them. After three swings, if the girl has not put the softball into play, a tee will be brought out for her to hit from. This age group usually has one or two games per week (8 games total) and practices are left to the coach’s discretion. Players are usually placed on teams according to the elementary school that they attend and/or their address. There are no umpires for this league.

Petite League (1st - 2nd):

This league is for girls who are in 1st - 2nd grades. This age group focuses on learning the basic fundamentals of softball while having their coach pitch to them. This age group may have one to two scheduled games per week (10 games total) and practices are left to the coach’s discretion. Players are usually placed on teams according to the elementary school that they attend and/or their address. There are no umpires for this league.

Junior League (3rd - 4th):

This league is for girls who are in 3rd - 4th grades. This age group also focuses on learning the basic fundamentals of softball while having the opponent pitch to them. In order to continue focusing on hitting there are no “walks” in this league. If a batter receives 4 balls from the pitcher, the strike count will be assumed unless there are no strikes on the batter, then a one-strike count will be assumed and their coach will then pitch to them. This age group may have one to two scheduled games per week (10 games total) and practices are left to the coach’s discretion. This league begins the use of one umpire at every game and and end of the year tourney.

Intermediate League (5th - 6th):

This league is for girls who are in 5th - 6th grades. This age group also focuses on learning the basic fundamentals of softball while having the opponent pitch to them. This age group may have one to three scheduled games per week (10 games total) and practices are left to the coach’s discretion. All intermediate players get drafted by coaches and placed on teams. This league has one umpire at every game and an end of the year tourney.

Senior League (7th - 10th):

This league is for players who are in 7th - 10th grades (An 11th grade girl may also play in this league but must receive board approval.) This league serves as a prep league to those playing softball in high school. It is an eight game season which is played between April and early May prior to the start of high school softball practice. Practices are left to the coach’s discretion. In order to provide balanced teams in this league, the Senior League Committee places girls on teams according to age and skill. This league has one umpire at every game and standings are not kept.
